Some students were able to present at the School Board Meeting last week.  They shared their learning from the Physics of Sound science unit.  The kids were excited to share their Tellagami iPad presentations with the board members.

Clay Project

Again this year each student at OLE gets to create a clay project in art class.

This year the third graders are making small, clay birdbaths.  The kids learned a little about clay and how it is shaped, fired, glazed and fired again.  Here are a few pictures of us creating our birdbaths.  The kids seemed to really enjoy this time creating.  A special thanks to our OLE Clay Mom, Gretel.  She has really be an invaluable resource both last year and this year, making this clay, art unit a possibility.

Valentine Exchange

The kids had so much fun sharing their valentines with each other.  It was fun to see them sharing with each other.  Many created valentines special for each classmate.  We had an impromptu Valentine box contest.  Students voted on valentine box awards in these categories: Most Original, Most Colorful, Heart-y-est Box, Plain-est Box, and Shiniest Valentine box.
Here are some of the pictures.

100th Day of School

We had fun celebrating the 100th day of school.

We built marshmallow and toothpick towers.  Groups of kids had 100 toothpicks and 100 marshmallows.  Who could get the tallest, standing structure?  Many students had to plan, try, and try again.  Lots of perseverance developed today.

We also sorted 100 Fruit Loops in to equal groups.  Kids practiced a little division with their cereal today.  We even talked about remainders when dividing objects into equal groups.
